'National mesothelioma awareness day' passes House of representatives

Yesterday, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) proudly announced the passage of H. res. 771, a resolution, named as national mesothelioma awareness day in September 26th. The President called the Bill introduced in the House of representatives by Congresswoman Betty McCollum of Minnesota call to observe a national mesothelioma awareness day with appropriate ceremonies and activities annually on the people in the United States, federal departments and agencies, States, communities, organizations and media.


Raising awareness of mesothelioma is a personal issue for Congresswoman Betty McCollum. "In the year 2000, my friend and predecessor, Congressman Bruce Vento was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma." "Despite warnings about the dangers of asbestos, too many Americans are decades of anything from the disastrous nature of this disease," says Republic McCollum. Congressman Bruce Vento, a former member of the Board of Directors of the Meso Foundation, died in 2000, nine months after diagnosis.


Mesothelioma began together day years five ago, when voluntary joined a small group of Meso Foundation to expand awareness of this terrible disease. Since 26th, hundreds of volunteers across the nation, your city and State request every September to Governments set up local declarations of mesothelioma awareness day. The National designation of this important day in the House of representatives is the Senate resolution (S. res. 288) that was introduced by Senator Patty Murray of Washington and pass in 2009.

"Recognition of mesothelioma at national level is in raising awareness and resources, the required to the tragedy of mesothelioma end galvanizing of essential", says Kathy Wiedemer, Executive Director of the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation.


Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor of the lining of the lungs, the belly or heart known, caused by exposure to asbestos. Medical experts consider it one of the most aggressive and deadly of all cancers. About 3,000 Americans are diagnosed each year with mesothelioma.


Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation is the national non-profit dedicated to finding a cure for mesothelioma by funding research, education and support for patients, and leading advocacy efforts to increase federal funding for mesothelioma research. Today, the Foundation has funded$ 6.4 million by its peer review scholarship program.
