Complications of mesothelioma

Mesothelioma a cancer is the mesothelium (covered the layer of tissues, internal organs). It can involve several different body systems. The three main system affected this cancer: the abdominal organs, this is known as peritoneal mesothelioma. the heart; that is known as pericardial mesothelioma; and the lungs pleural mesothelioma.


Pericardial mesothelioma can lead to heart damage, by acting on the cover of you heart and can cause that irregular heart rhythm. The heart must work harder to circulate blood through the body and can lead to fluid around the heart and heart failure. If already a problem with the heart a person suffering from a heart attack due to the additional load.


Cancer that affects to the lungs pleural mesothelioma causes that build liquid between the lungs and the chest wall. This pressure on the lungs and cause pain in the chest, coughing and respiratory problems. Often must this liquid by inserting a needle, draining the fluid are removed. As this cancer progresses, more and more fluid builds and must frequently be drained.


Peritoneal mesothelioma cause abdominal pain, changes in the bowel habits, weight loss and anemia. A loss of appetite is a problem of this cancer. The liver and gallbladder can also be affected.


Other complications of mesothelioma include: Dysphasia is that swallow a food problem. This is a rare occurrence and usually only in advance stages of cancer is found.


Superior vena cava syndrome occurs when the vena cava superior vein (carries the blood from the heart to the upper part of the body) is blocked. This leads to airway obstruction and shortness of breath.


The cancer getting worse can tumors in other parts of the body including the liver and the bones appear. Because there is no cure for mesothelioma treatment given to improve the quality of life.
